It can be difficult for inexperienced or untrained eyes to spot a dangerous tree situation, but a seasoned arborist can tell when a tree is in danger years before anything happens. When you contact us for a tree assessment, we look for the following:

Cracks in the tree – Cracks are common in trees, but major ones can weaken the structural integrity of the tree and make it vulnerable to insects, decay, and disease.

Decay - When the inner heartwood tissue of the tree becomes soft, the tree may begin to decay.

Root plate problems – A tree may be unstable if the root plate softens or degrades, which leads to a disconnection with the lateral root system. Common causes of root plate issues include root disease, deep planting, and mower blight.

Insects and disease - Invasive insects and tree diseases leave signs that arborists will be able to catch right away. Addressing these problems early will help prevent serious damage to the tree.

Girdling tree roots – When the tree roots start to wrap around the trunk, they start competing with the trunk for water and nutrients. The trunk and the roots will expand into each other and eventually cause problems.

Leaning tree - If the tree roots lose their attachment to the soil, the tree may begin to lean. If the lean worsens each season, then the tree will need to be removed.
